It's official. Queens is the coolest borough in New York. The Borough of Queens has turned in 3,014 old air conditioners and replaced them with energy-efficient ENERGY STAR(R) qualified models, making Queens the winner of the 2007 BE COOL Challenge. Thanks to their response to the challenge, the residents of Queens have prevented
405,623 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions and saved 371,450 kilowatt-hours(kWh) of electricity.
"Now what I already knew is official: Queens is the coolest borough," said Borough President Helen Marshall. "Queens residents should be proud to have made this significant impact on the environment and of their effort to conserve energy. We won the BE COOL Challenge because it's our people that truly make Queens the coolest."

Just heard about this today... a little old but............
Stereo, the scene where just two days ago Brione Schneider was shot and killed, is now closed. Sorry clubland kids! The Daily News reports that last night "a police van and five unmarked cars rolled onto W.29th St. at 9 p.m., did a 30-minute sweep of the open but empty nightspot, posted the closing notice and bolted the club's doors." WABC was also on the scene, and has a video of their report here.

While Schneider's killer is still at large, the NYPD says the shuttering of the club has nothing to do with the slaying. NYPD attorney Allison Arenson told The Daily News that Stereo was closed due to cocaine being found, and because of their unlicensed security guards. She also says there's a "whole slew of things" that led to the decision. The NY Post reports that "Stereo has been closed three times since last April for a slew of violations, including owing the city nearly $15,000 in fines."

The club is in an area the NYPD sees as a hotbed for criminal activity, and is just one of the establishments it's been trying to shut down since 2006. No word on whether they will try to reopen again.

Paris Hilton’s grandfather Barron Hilton has promised 97% of his $2.3 billion wealth to charity which includes his net worth and various trusts. Barron wants to see his money used for good after his passing and not have it wasted on Paris.
Reuters reports: Jerry Oppenheimer, who profiled the Hilton family in his 2006 book "House of Hilton," has said Barron Hilton is embarrassed by the behaviour of his socialite granddaughter Paris and believes it has sullied the family name.

People magazine reports this morning that Jessica Alba is pregnant, and longtime boytoy Cash Warren is the dad, according to her rep, Brad Cafarelli. The couple are expecting their joy-bundle in late spring, early summer next year. They met back in 2004 on the set of "The Fantastic Four." Look out Britney here she comes......

Capt. Ed Winter of the L.A. County Coroner's office says that it appears as though rapper Pimp C died of natural causes in a Hollywood hotel room today.

We're told no drug paraphernalia or other drugs were found in the room. The rapper, we've learned, was found fully clothed on top of the bed. He did not seem to have fallen or injured himself and he was positioned on his side.

Winter said it did not appear that there was anyone else in the room at the time of his death. An autopsy will be performed and toxicology test results will be available in six to eight weeks.

Pimp C, whose real name is Chad Butler, was one half of the Houston rap duo UGK. Also known for his guest appearance in Jay-Z's song "Big Pimpin".
